LADY GAGA TALKS SAFE SEX

by Jess Lee | October 25th, 2011

Lady Gaga is a fashion icon as well as a musical phenomenon. She has also been the face of VIVA GLAM since 2009. VIVA GLAM is a part of the MAC AIDS Fund, which was established by the cosmetics company MAC. In short, VIVA GLAM is a line of lipsticks and glosses from which all proceeds go to help those with HIV/AIDS.

The movement was started back in 1994, and since then their campaign has been headed by celebrities such as Elton John, Cyndi Lauper, Christina Aguilera, Mary J. Blidge, and many more.

In their fight against HIV/AIDS, Gaga also emphasizes the importance of safe sex in a recent article.

“Sex doesn’t mean nothing; sex means so much. I hope that young women know that sex is still a big deal, and they don’t have to put out soon. If they want someone to court them for a while before they give it up, that’s wonderful and beautiful, and a man will only respect you more for honoring your body. I am that way.”

In many of her songs, such as the hit Born This Way, Gaga also relays the message that it is important to love who you are.

“What I hope to do with this campaign is to not only raise awareness for AIDS and HIV but raise the awareness that it’s OK and wonderful and beautiful to love yourself and be happy and to honor your body and to use a condom or say no.”

“The conversation is the most important aspect of it.”

The MAC AIDS Fund has raised $55 million since 2009, and around $244 million dollars total so far.

You can buy VIVA GLAM lipstick and support the cause here. There’s also a video showing Lady Gaga talking about the campaign and about AIDS awareness.
