It’s that time of year again – Fashion Week is starting in New York and it’s kicking off with a bang, formally referred to as Fashion’s Night Out. While Manhattan may serve as the epicenter of the event (and, in the opinion of everyone who lives here, the entire universe) 500 cities and 19 countries will be joining in on the fun.
The run-down: It’s tonight. As in, TONIGHT. 4,500 events will be going on in the great country of America from 6PM-11PM, and you can go to the official FNO website to see them all + make a personalized schedule. Being once a year and all, this night has to be special, so stores go all out giving away free/discounted/limited-edition merch, bringing in awesome musical acts + guest celebs, and having head designers appear at their own parties to get down and dirty with the shopping riff-raff. Tonight is not a night to stay home with Netflix.
FNO can be slightly (completely) overwhelming, and there is real and serious fear-of-missing-out threat if you don’t play your cards right. Don’t know where to start? Here’s a list of some of the best bashes being thrown in fashion’s honor. Where to go…
TO GET YOUR GOOD ON:
Anywhere selling official FNO merch
Go here to see which retailers to turn to and find the coveted shirts and bags. Forty percent of proceeds raised from sales will go to the New York City AIDS Fund in the New York Community Trust. Everyone needs a souvenir, and this one is for a cause (aka, no buyer’s remorse!).
Barneys 660 Madison Avenue (between 61st and 62nd streets); 6 to 10 p.m.
Extended hours AND 10% of proceeds will be donated to the Human Rights Campaign in support of its Marriage Equality Program. You love fashion – shake it up and use your fashion to help love.
TO GET FREE SWAG:
Fossil 1585 Broadway (between 47th and 48th streets); 6 to 11 p.m.

Living up to their name, Free People is giving away iPhone cases & totes to the first 50 guests.
The RealReal Throughout Madison Ave.; 6 to 9 p.m.
Okay, so this one isn’t an automatic given, but if you’re lucky enough there’s a Chanel bag at the end. Do you have the Chanel gift card?”

Miami Heat’s Dwayne Wade holds court at CK to sign copies of his book, “A Father First: How My Life Became Bigger Than Basketball.”

Although my personal favorite kitten, Karl Lagerfeld’s Choupette, won’t be making the festivities, FNO won’t be a total loss for cat lover’s – a printed canvas and calfskin tote featuring artistic sketches of Pumpkin, the calico ball of fluff belonging to Vogue creative director Grace Coddington, will be offered.
