The talented and wonderful Sufjan Stevens is lending his musical prowess to choreographer Justin Peck and the New York City Ballet. On October 5, the ballet “Year of the Rabbit” will premiere at Lincoln Center’s David H Koch Theater in New York, and from the looks of the promo, it’s going to be stunning.
The ballet will feature newly orchestrated arrangements from Run Rabbit Run, Steven’s 2009 collaboration album with Brooklyn quartet Osso. “Year of the Rabbit” will be an extension of Peck and Steven’s 2010 collaboration called “Tales of a Chinese Zodiac”, which featured music from Enjoy Your Rabbit, Sufjan’s 2001 electronic album and the inspiration for Run Rabbit Run.
This Sunday and Monday, September 23rd & 24th, Stevens and Peck will discuss the ballet, and dancers from the production will perform excerpts at the Guggenheim Museum in NYC. Unfortunately this event is sold out, but fear not! The discussion & performance will be streamed live online here.
The promo for “Year of the Rabbit”, directed by Yoonha Park, is set to “The Palm Sunday Tornado Hits Crystal Lake” from Steven’s The Avalanche. I’m not too familiar with the ballet world, but this production will be too beautiful to miss. Buy tickets for “Year of the Rabbit” here.

Anyone else notice that the video gives a special thanks to Batman?
What time will the live streaming be happening today?
