A bill has officially been passed in Los Angeles, California requiring condom use in pornography. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation has been fighting vigorously for the past few years to pass this law, and have finally accomplished their goal. With a 9-1 vote amongst the LA city council members, there was no question this new requirement would reside.
The law allows the Los Angeles Police Department to perform checks on film sets with issued permits. The LAPD, the state’s workplace safety agency, and the city attorney’s office will recommend how to implement the policy further within the next 90 days, before the decree goes into effect. Though the city attorney was against the proposal due to possible issues between employees and employers within the adult film industry, a large conductor of revue in Los Angeles, The AIDS Healthcare Foundation offered to pay up to $50,000 if the city were to be sued for the decision.
Now, in addition to frequent testing, the actors will be protected from many STDs, including HIV/AIDS. The lives of many people starring in adult films are no longer at such high risk for the disease. It is certainly a step in widespread HIV/AIDS prevention in America!
