Medical Innovation Combats HIV/AIDS Among Children

Every day, about 700 children die from AIDS-related illnesses; and every day, a thousand more are infected, usually when infected mothers give birth.

But up till now, HIV/AIDS among children has been on the back burner — especially in developing countries — according to Rachel Cohen, the regional executive director of the Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative.

This organization seeks to combat the spread and help in the treatment of children with AIDS, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, through a new campaign that (among other things) aims to spread the use of drugs that prevent the transmission of HIV from mother to child.
