Today, June 27, is National HIV Testing Day.
Not being rooted – like most holidays – in good-ol’-fashioned American “famlah valyoos” and/or superstitions, it’s not given the same kind of publicity that Father’s Day or Christmas usually receive, and I personally can’t remember the last time I went to a friend’s BBQ to drink cheap beer and toast 20-minute swab tests.
But what I can say is this: regardless of what day of the year it is, if people put a greater emphasis on HIV testing in their own lives and the lives of their friends, there’s no doubt we’d soon be living in a healthier world.
Here’s an interactive map of clinics and other locations throughout the US that provide free HIV testing, either on June 27 or throughout the year.
Play Safe.
