Present Day AIDS Denialism

by Jenna Archambault | January 24th, 2012

In the above video, Peter Duesberg PhD, describes his opinions in support of AIDS Denialism. This theory is the belief that the HIV virus is not the cause of AIDS. For a brief history, in South Africa, Aids Denialist policies were heavily enforced during the presidency of Thabo Mbeki until the end of his term in 2008. Today, public health researchers have attributed about 330,000 to 340,000 AIDS deaths, 35,000 infant HIV infections, and over 171,000 other HIV infections to the denialist laws of that time. In this clip, provided by RightWingWatch.org, People For the American Way’s blog for monitoring and exposing activities of the extreme Right, Dr. Duesberg claims that the cause of AIDS is not HIV, but instead behaviors such as drug use and homosexual promiscuity. In addition, Bryan Fischer, director of the American Family Association, backs this statement by claiming the ‘HIV causes AIDS’ declaration was only invented to get grant money. That no one would have funded research for a disease caused solely by dishonest behavior. In 1 minute and 52 seconds, these men bring an outdated philosophy to 2012, encompassing all that is stereotype, homophobia, religious insanity, and closed mindedness.

Bryan Fischer does NOT have a show with People for the American Way. PFAW is a progressive group whose blog, Right Wing Watch, exposes Fischer’s bigotry. Fischer works for the so-called American Family Association.

Mbeki was president of South Africa between 1999 and 2008.
