Graffiti: War Within Activism

by Jenna Archambault | January 17th, 2012

In today’s culture, street art is not only a form of expression, creativity, and rebellion for those creating it, but a symbol of propaganda. Popular names in the field such as Banksy use their life size and geographic images to send a message to the world, often politically charged. So it’s ironic that a battle would arise amongst the rebels themselves. But irony is the driving force behind many Banksy works, so it is really no surprise that it would persist throughout all avenues of his artistic influence. The Channel 4 UK series ‘Graffiti Wars’ features an episode showing the conflict between a long-time street art legend, King Robbo, and the infamous Banksy. It is a feud that has amounted to physically sabotaging each other’s street pieces, vandalizing graffiti – for another ironic spin. Watch the full episode below, and see how the epic dispute unfolds.
